News You Can Use! Please note: During peak computer use time when the number of computers are limited in the Pharmacy Cluster please be courteous to others and use your time on a computer wisely. We have all felt the anxiety and frustration of being unable to use a computer, those feelings amplify when computer usage is for personal items unrelated to school.
v RSVP for Graduation It’s coming soon, please be sure to go online and RSVP if you plan on attending graduation. http://www.utoledo.edu/pharmacy/current/Graduation/graduation.html
If anyone is interested in volunteering for setting up for graduation please contact Amy at acipria2@utnet.utoledo.edu
v Suggestion Box
The suggestion to put end of course evaluations online at WebCT is being considered, however the difficulty is making the then submitted evaluations anonymous. There is a possibility that this will be implemented in order to better use course time and obtain an honest and non-time sensitive response from students.
v Proposal for Mandatory Fee to Tuition
This issue raised last semester is being worked on by a committee, the proposed mandatory fee is being morphed into a replacement for the Pharmacology textbook given at the white coat ceremony and instead gifted to students whom would then choose which organization they would like to be a part of. Still a work in progress…

v Budgeting Crisis
A Student Council Budgeting Meeting was held 25 March 2009 regarding the plan of action to meet and defeat the current budget deficit. In addition to suggestions such as double sided printing to cut costs the University of Toledo has approached the Provost with meticulous attention paid to discouraging enrollment and employment. This is still an evolving and ongoing process, with the current ideas embracing not cutting current faculty and staff whom are currently doing three times their expected workload but instead leaving unfilled positions unfilled and constructing an faculty-voluntary MTM program (that has been requested by several faculty) to bring in an additional net $100,000 after startup. The MT M program can be implemented immediately and expanded to more than UT faculty members involving the community if it becomes successfully. Over 5 years it is expected to save $3 million in reduced health care costs, and faculty fees as the bulk revenue generator as opposed to MTM code billing through insurance.
Enrollment in programs are expected to increase from PharmD 108 students to 135 seats and from BSPS 86 seats to 120 students with accreditation requirements still satisfied.
A raise in fees has been discussed and presented. Three fees are going will either be implemented or exceeded, the BSPS practicum fee will increase from $533 to $616 in order to add an MBC lecturer, general lab fees will increase to $125 and a new application fee for incoming PharmD ($75) and BSPS ($35) students. With 289 students, 244 of those seating for the essay, and about 50 students not placing in either program this should bring in a substancial amount. With the projected increase in seating by 30 seats in a couple of years, this should generate a degree of revenue. Many schools of Pharmacy in Ohio already have fees implemented in their programs.

Please note: If you use the Law Library to study, please be aware as Pharmacy students we are GUESTS at this facility. Recent complaints at the Law Library have centered on Pharmacy students volume and use of printing services. Courtesy keeps our invitation open there. Be respectful!
A student has suggested the 3 hole punch be returned to the Pharmacy Resource Center. The 3 hole punch was removed in hopes of keeping the Resource Center clean and instead replaced with pre-punched paper in the printers. There are two hole punchers located in the library, therefore the absence of a hole punch in the Resource Center will persist. Do you have any comments or suggestions? Let your voice be heard here >>
Dr. Alexander and Josh Nezbeth have put together a proposal for Mandatory Student Involvement. This proposal would include a mandatory $30 fee added to, at this moment, BSPS student tuition but has been proposed to extend to PharmD tuition as well. With this $30 students would choose which organization they would like to be a part of and the money would go to that fee. Opinions needed! Agree, disagree? Click here >>

v American Pharmacists Month
It’s almost over, but there are plenty of activities still left and even some that will be started that carry over into November! Please be sure to visit the calendar to see.
v Move to HSC
The current economic status has a potential to delay the Pharmacy program’s transition to the Health Science Campus projected for 2010 due to the 3% interest borrowing rate increase. Laboratory naming is now projected to be specific to what the lab works on, such as “Alzheimer’s lab” in order to decrease the broad explanation of what the lab does. v Fundraising Ideas
Please anonymously submit your ideas on the forum or email at acipria2@utnet.utoledo.eduThe recent fundraiser is focusing on scrubs, would you buy them? Share your thoughts>
